1. How did you form the team for the competition?

When the sun shines in Spain we all go South. Therefore, Álvaro Carrillo meet DRST office Gonzalo Gutiérrez + Adrià Escolano for some refreshing mojitos in Costa del Sol and then everything happened.

2. How do you define the main issue of your project, and how did you answer on this session main topic: Adaptability through Self-Organization, Sharing and/or Project (Process)?

Waldstrasse is about political courage. We proposed a set of 5 strategies and 25 actions linking public agendas, planning decisions and political grittiness to redefine the Northern half of the city with the strongest character possible. From city scale parks to small interior courtyards we proposed an overall strategy of public realm management and street space quality. Too much work for the politics?

3. How did this issue and the questions raised by the site mutation meet?

Ingolstadt morphology gratefully received previous topics and urban mutations. Both detailed form analysis and strategic discussion naturally melt on the optimistic pre-summer behaviour. Since our personal interests differ but overlap (political framework + strategic analysis + typological metabolism), there happened to be several anchor points along site and topics.

4. Have you treated this issue previously? What were the reference projects that inspired yours?

Definitely yes. This was just a new pocket on the same travel bag. We did explore this topic in our final degree projects and our last submission in E12 among several others. The projects of the possible or the uncertain linked to a width-actors-web promotes the desired mutability. The conceptual and physical in-betweens and the public-private conditions are without a doubt a recurrent topic for us. Responding precisely to question two, some global projects that inspired us were be “The Nolli Plan” from Giambattista Nolli, “12 Actions to Make Peter Eisenmann Transparent” by Andrés Jaque and “Suburban Sets, royal pet” by Ron Herron.

5. Today –at the era of economic crisis and sustainability– the urban-architectural project should reconsider its production method in time; how did you integrate this issue in your project?

Most important will be to propose a non-linear production process. A sort of hyperproduction. Several independent actors and different scale strategies evolve simultaneously allowing multiple beginnings and unexpected behaviours. Any force from every subject should be able to multiply along the unknown lifespan of the project. Multiple projects of the project of the project.

6. Is it the first time you have been awarded a prize at Europan? How could this help you in your professional career?

Yes, it is! Well, indeed we have received a couple of Special Mentions on the two last editions. How much will it help? It will depend on how many mayors of European Town Halls read this interview! No, seriously, we are very grateful and optimistic… But we will answer this question much better in a couple of years.
