1. How do you define the main issue of your project in relation with the theme “Living Cities Imagining architecture taking care of the milieus”? And in which way do you think your project can contribute to an ecological and/or social evolution?
From the beginning of the competition, we established procedural milestones, primarily focused on elevating the landscape of Lade and promoting actions that would be beneficial to all life species in the area. As architects, we are deeply committed to the sustainable evolution of our planet, recognizing our responsibility to design careful architectures capable of adequately accommodating future life forms.

2. How did the issues of your design and the questions raised by the site mutation meet?
How to preserve the natural richness of Lade while simultaneously integrating substantial, functional, and contextually significant buildings? Correctly placing the required program and volumes was essential to ensure the overall success of our strategy; the goal was to make our intervention as subtle and yet enriching as possible. Studying the context we understood where was worth operating and where preserving.

PROJECT:

3. Have you treated these issues previously? What were the reference projects that inspired yours?
We usually don’t rely too much on references, but for this project we had some inspirations. For the landscape strategy and concept we looked at the 7000 Eichen by Jospeh Beuys, we liked the participatory process behind the creation of a new landscape. The norwegian Stabbur was a reference for the housing sector, we were inspired by its subtle relationoship with the soil and the green roof. We never designed a Nursing Home before, and we really didn’t use any typological or programmatic reference for it, we do have a reference for its material and some of its architectural elements: the Heddal Stavkirche.

SITE:

4. How can your project be implemented together with the actors through a negotiated process and in time. How did you consider this issue in your project?
The project incorporates a phasing strategy designed to provide ample time for open discussion and adjustments in the design. With the exception of the initial phase, the subsequent four phases can be readily interchanged. Morphologically, the typologies chosen are intentionally flexible, allowing easy adaptation to various requirements. Having a municipality as the client will undoubtedly elevate the precision of our design, benefiting from their extensive knowledge of the site and a clearly defined urban program outlined in the competition brief.

5. How did you form the team for the competition and if so what are the skills you associated?
The team was established following a design course at the Università Iuav di Venezia in 2022. I was tutoring Enrico and Lemuel, and after a brilliant submission, I invited them to consider an internship with /mò·le/. Subsequently, I’ve Francesca to contribute with her expertise in urban design and social-environmental design to the team.

6. How could this prize help you in your professional career?
Europan provides a unique opportunity for young practitioners to design significant areas of european cities. The chance to design relevant projects and collaborate with prominent clients, such as the Trondheim Kommune in our case, is not common. We believe that this project will not only contribute to the economic development of our practice but also fortify our point of view on architecture.

Team name: /mò·le/
Average age of the associates: The associate is 30 years old. The average age of the team is 26,75.

Has your team, together or separately, already conceived or implemented some projects and/or won any competition? if so, which ones?
This is the first competition we do with this team configuration. With different members, we already did many competitions and we realized one small project in Biella for the Premio Federico Maggia. Together with LuMaa, we were invited to participate to “Visioni per un Futuro Presente” a research project opened to the 22 most talented U40 offices in Italy. This project took place during the national event “Brescia Bergamo Capitale della Cultura 2023”.
