1. How do you define the main issue of your project in relation with the theme “Living Cities Imagining architecture taking care of the milieus”? And in which way do you think your project can contribute to an ecological and/or social evolution?
Makarska, a layered artifact in its essence unmistakably Mediterranean, is shaped by its people and their habits. The project enables the complexity and gradation of human interaction in society and in Makarska. These interactions transpire in specific locales, defined by deeply human and architectural elements - the roof over the open public space, which enriches the individual and the society.

2. How did the issues of your design and the questions raised by the site mutation meet?
Our approach was to extract the locality of the place, its character and to analyze in a wider context what it should become. We decided to capture and enhance unique atmospheres across three distinct levels at three intertwined locations. A local, domestic symphony from overlapping sounds of clinking of the plates, children playing, crickets and the wind is created, inseparable from the Mediterranean.

PROJECT:

3. Have you treated these issues previously? What were the reference projects that inspired yours?
In our every project we are in search to find what is the genius loci of the place and try to embrace it together with the project task. This was our first bigger project in the sensitive and inspiring Mediterranean context.

SITE:

4. How can your project be implemented together with the actors through a negotiated process and in time. How did you consider this issue in your project?
Through an open discussion with the City of Makarska we can present our solution, the overall idea and our vision for the future development of the city. The City reviews the solution and gives their commentary. One of the additional key topics is a new traffic strategy and a traffic study necessary to conduct it. If necessary, the solution is adjusted after the revision.

REFERENCES:

5. How did you form the team for the competition and if so what are the skills you associated?
Our team was steadily formed through academic context and now in a professional domain.

6. How could this prize help you in your professional career?
It gives us an opportunity to speak of our ideas and visions of the built and social environment.
