1. How did you form the team for the competition?
The members of Folk Arkitekter and Casper Juhler Arkitektur are long lasting friends going all the way back to the Royal Danish Academy School of Architecture. We have been working together for a while professionally on private projects and thought it could be exciting to do a Europan competition together focusing on the development of social housing. Simply to get some common experience on this topic.

2. How do you define the main issue of your project, and how did you answer on this session main topic, Living cities?
As an improvement and reinvention of the existing building mass and neighbourhood in a responsible and liveable way. Which could be implemented tomorrow!

3. How did the issues on metabolic and inclusive vitalities and the questions raised by the site mutation meet?
In 2050 a home in Geyisried (Biel/Bienne) rivals the most mundane and attractive houses in the city of Biel/Bienne. The resident’s perception of a classical home has changed. Their home extends beyond the walls of a typical apartment, and contains an abundance of high-quality spaces and functions, previously unheard of in cooperative housing. Geyisried 2050 is a persistently attractive neighbourhood. By implementing tried and true elements of city-planning, the security and useability of the area is consistently supported. Geyisried is also densified and transformed with a minimal amount of economy, natural resources and outdoor spaces spend.
4. Have you treated this issue previously? What were the reference projects that inspired yours?
Folk Arkitekter have participated in Europan 13, 14, and 15 before. All projects were focusing on the improvement and reinvention of the existing social housing and neighbourhoods. From Finland to Holland. We have also been doing some of our own studies in the social housing area of Vollsmose, Odensen, Denmark, and working on developing a community house in a social housing area in Hvidovre, Denmark. All these experiences throughout the years inspired us and we brought it along for this competition in Biel/Bienne.
5. Urban-architectural projects like the ones in Europan can only be implemented together with the actors through a negotiated process and in time. How did you consider this issue in your project?
Working further on our project in Biel/Bienne will mean a great deal of collaboration and user involvement with the existing parties such the municipality, the housing cooperatives, and local actors. This should happen from day 1 and throughout the process.

6. Is it the first time you have been awarded a prize at Europan? How could this help you in your professional career?
We did get an honorable mention in Jyväskylä, Finland, and a shortlist in Bijlmermeer, Amsterdam, Holland. Winning in Biel/Bienne is big, and we hope that this could finalize in a physical impact and do some good for this area!
