MOCO (MO-dern Life, CO-Housing).
In today's world of increasing mobility, changing social systems, flexible new family patterns and a general demand for sustainability, a new kind of housing is needed to match lifestyles, along with architecture that has an ambitious social agenda, proposing new forms of urban and residential life. This proposal creates an internal street, providing entrance to the dwellings. The “chain” structure of the grouped units is open to the surrounding greenery. A communal house is centrally located.
The proposal attaches great symbolic value to private houses, whilst increasing living connections with the city and the global network. “The inhabitants eat out, whilst private kitchen facilities are enlarged”. The proposal asks whether it is possible to reformulate a way of living that incorporates social networks, where people meet informally and spontaneously in their own homes.
This project is connected to the following themes
Shared spaces - A Frame for social life
The project, in exploring collective housing, proposes public spaces between the built structures, occupied by community centres and providing informal meeting places.
Housing - Morphology
Inspired by the modern Japanese school, the morphology developed by the project seeks to achieve a model of housing that is more in keeping with modern lifestyles.
Nature - Limit / Reconnection
The winding layout of the building strips both establishes a functional interior space (the inner street serving each dwelling) and a high-quality and open exterior space (each dwelling has an opening onto the landscape).
