Europan 7 Fribourg

runner-up

The project is located on the sunny side of the valley without any construction at the foot. Descending the hill, it follows the breaches in topography, the meanders of the Sarine and the twists and turns of the wall opposite. Like the latter, it introduces no horizontal line into the landscape, its sculpture fluctuating in harmony with the slope of the land. This complex morphology brings together as a unit varying uses and modes of occupation. Small shops stand side by side with business premises while living accommodation ranges from the block of flats to linear housing. The flats open widely to the south, overlooking the valley and the old city.
