Europan 9 Moudon

2007

"This is what the first of all human spaces looks like: a journey punctuated by vertical components. Rising from the featureless horizontal plane of nomadic wanderings, these markers introduce a vertical element which turns them into places of force. They constitute jetties, anchoring-points which make it possible to hold still and collect one's bearings amidst the insubstantial expanses of space and time" - Paul Blanquart in a history of the city.
No project can be sustainable without a collective subject, or remain attractive in the long term without a recognizable identity, full of promise. Only by changing the cultural identity of a community is it possible to talk in terms of a sustainable project. The proposal enshrines the expression of forces converging towards fresh cultural consistency, aiming to re-establish a sacred dialogue between mankind and the land. By amplifying real-life conditions, the criss-crossing strips  provide a visible urban image of environmental concerns. Given that industry remains at the heart of Moudon's economy, it should not be rejected. On the contrary, the project draws on it, using it as a starting point for an alternative approach to developing the existing locality, restoring the fundamental character of land which has been over-occupied. This marks the beginning of a partnership between the inherently artificial nature of human activity and the reforming of a natural environment.  Ultimately, Moudon will no longer be an insignificant dot on a banal itinerary as it becomes a significant landmark for the nomads of today.

2008-2013

Following the competition the team has been commissioned to organise participatory workshops. The role of the team was to create a link between the regional administration and the city by formalizing orientation for the future. Pretexts to getting together, city protagonists consultations attempted to infuse new destiny. The team was then commissioned to draft a masterplan for the development of the industrial zone. Work was also carried out on accessibility and road network.

This project is connected to the following themes

Mobility - Social Fields

The project proposes a synthetic view of the contemporary city and its rejected areas, proposing an ecological expression of movement in the form of a recycling park, where green mobility works with the rhythm of the land.

Shared spaces - Link - promenade

The park as a whole forms a series of interwoven links and promenades along the infrastructures.

Nature - Working with

The eco-park formed around the infrastructure seeks to assert the existing character of the site: the heterogeneous business zone acquires new character through a large park that plays both a unifying and ecological role.
