1. How did you form the team for the competition?

Filoferro Architetti was founded in Florence (IT) in 2017 and is composed of an invisible path between the shadow of the Cupola del Duomo and the Campanile of San Marco in Venice.

2. How do you define the main issue of your project, and how did you answer on this session main topic: the place of productive activities within the city?

The project intends to safeguard both the richness of the landscape, an urban and rural landscape to be brought back into the city through its infinite polychromes, and the historical memory of the in-tervention area, through a comparison and rewriting project. Thus a new spatial system is set up which presents itself as a new weaving of the city, ready to accommodate many and always different attractive activities, becoming an educational and collective place, and therefore a productive one.

 

3. How did this issue and the questions raised by the site mutation meet?

The objective application has enabled to integrate what already existed through a reconfiguration of a new type of landscape, which was able to unite the interrupted parts of the urban discourse. This is a process against architectural aphasia, based on a compositional process of multiple events of different intensity. 

 

 

4. Have you treated this issue previously? What were the reference projects that inspired yours?

During our previous experiences we have had the opportunity to face the urban redevelopment through architectural configurations capable of attracting people, as actors of the scene, as well as generating a new approach to reality. These lands are inextricably linked to architecture in the last decades, where a new awareness of the city has led to the re-evaluation and regeneration of many critical or abandoned areas; this has generated new social and community realities through architec-ture.

  

 

5. Urban-architectural projects like the ones in Europan can only be implemented together with the actors through a negotiated process and in time. How did you consider this issue in your project?

The design adaptation is conceived in its temporal variation, taking place in precise moments in order to involve, step-by-step, the actors of the scene. The three constructive processes - new building, re-writing and completion - together with the possibility of dividing the implementation of the interven-tion in several stages, intervene flexibly in the urban landscape in order to slowly educate the eyes.

6. Is it the first time you have been awarded a prize at Europan? How could this help you in your professional career?

For us it is the first time. This is an opportunity for us, not only for its visibility, but most of all for the chance to become part of an interesting debate through which we can learn so much and we can practice architecture.
