INTERVIEW (en anglais)
1. How did you form the team for the competition?
We have worked together since we were studying at University ETSAB-UPC. A long time ago!
2. How do you define the main issue of your project, and how did you answer on this session main topic: the place of productive activities within the city?
Our proposal defines a “game board” ruled by the site’s environmental conditions and played with different architectural tactics. We understand that the main issue is to design the support for a wide range of activities that could closely interact, including productive and non-productive activities. Our aim is to foster the spontaneous location of the different activities depending on their overlapping tensions and demands. “Infrastructural fields” structures build frames to tackle the site’s problems and solve them with the stimulation of heterogeneous relations between their inhabitants.
3. How did this issue and the questions raised by the site mutation meet?
We found some environmental problems in Parc Bit, affecting human health and the site’s ecosystems, amplified by the lack of mixed activities and spatial segregation. Our proposal objective is to solve these problems through the implementation of productive and sustainable activities that could renew the place. Overlapping the site’s problems reality, with our project strategies we improve water and energy management, end with aerial and acoustic pollution, offer comfortable mobility and convert parking’s “heat island effect” into a green lung.
4. Have you treated this issue previously? What were the reference projects that inspired yours?
Yes, we have treated it in different awarded projects in Barcelona and Mallorca.
5. Urban-architectural projects like the ones in Europan can only be implemented together with the actors through a negotiated process and in time. How did you consider this issue in your project?
“Infrastructural fields” is a project based on its evolution and implementation through time. The structures proposed and their occupation may grow depending on the negotiations between different actors, their demanding and needs. The image shown is not a result, it’s a moment in some point of the process or even an overlapped image of different moments in time.
6. Is it the first time you have been awarded a prize at Europan? How could this help you in your professional career?
Yes. Let’s see, we wish to receive some commission to apply for our infrastructural catalogue proposal.
