1. How do you define the main issue of your project in relation with the theme “Living Cities Imagining architecture taking care of the milieus”? And in which way do you think your project can contribute to an ecological and/or social evolution?
Our project addresses both ecological and social vulnerabilities present in Østmarka. Improving the existing landscape by reforestation and diversification contributes to the quality of the site. Along with designing adaptable (elderly)housing in close connection with the landscape, we can ensure catering to the changing needs and relevance of the project over time.

2. How did the issues of your design and the questions raised by the site mutation meet?
Østmarka, a complex site where various interests intersect, posed challenges for advancing the design process. Former hurdles included opposition from neighbours, the need to preserve natural connections, and the existence of sensitive functions. The most appropriate approach appeared to be process-oriented, therefore we established a framework capable of incorporating multiple inputs and variables.

3. Have you treated these issues previously? What were the reference projects that inspired yours?
In our everyday work, we notice the arising necessity of a multidisciplinary way of working which requires coordination between numerous involved parties. Approaching a project as a process instead of as a product provides a much more resilient and flexible solution that fosters long-term cooperation aiming at depth and quality.

4. How can your project be implemented together with the actors through a negotiated process and in time. How did you consider this issue in your project?
The phasing of Østmarka reflects the principles of organic growth and sustainable development. Emphasising the symbiotic relationship between buildings and green spaces, the project unfolds in a series of thoughtful steps. Each step will be designed as a complete whole and in addition, each step will be discussed and agreed upon with residents through participation processes.

5. How did you form the team for the competition and if so what are the skills you associated?
We know each other from studies in Warsaw (PL) and Delft (NL). Some of us also work currently together at the same office. We decided to participate in Europan to challenge ourselves with a project which is outside the Netherlands, where we usually work.

6. How could this prize help you in your professional career?
This recognition could contribute to the visibility and exposure of our work. It will definitely add credibility to our design abilities and enhance our portfolios.
