Europan 11 Romainmôtier

runner-up

The proposal generates new relations to the landscape, considered the most relevant element in the surroundings, instead of creating predictable links to the existing urban development. This will preserve the identity of the town, besides adding a layer of new ways of living and working around consolidated areas that will attract new residents. Both urban patterns will establish a fresh dialogue by juxtaposition.
The structure resolves three different categories: VERSALITY (the organization of cores established a new morphology of expressive space); the capacity to bring about ALTERATION of surroundings (re-ordering; re-solutions; re-use); and ADAPTATION to all type of users through the development of furnishing modules.
Depending on the needs of users and climatology, the terraced structure makes the interior part of the exterior and controls how the area grows through time.

Housing - Typology

A typological exploration is anchored into a toolkit organized around several residential components such as fundamental units, stairs, cores, even furniture, which are able to generate multiple combinations to be adapted to a wide range of future inhabitants in an organic morphology.
